Eyhance IOL review

Eyhance intraocular lens is the first in class enhanced monofocal IOL, designed to provide improved visual acuity at intermediate distance compared to a standard monofocal IOL.

Eyhance was introduced in 2019 and since then demonstrated stable and predictable outcomes, proven by numerous clinical studies, delivering the best in class intermediate visual acuity, exeptional low light performance backed by sharp optics with the highest MTF rates compared even to standard monofocals.

Eyhance IOL official information

Provides improved intermediate vision in range of -0.5D to -1.5D of defocus compared to standard monofocal IOL.  Visual acuity at 66cm expected to be about 0.2 logMar which is about 6 lines and is sufficient for daily activities for major tasks.

Eyhance optic design: aspheric optic to compensate average corneal spherical aberrations to zero. Proprietary smooth refractive posterior surface curvature change to improve intermediate vision.

Eyhance material: proprietary, hydrophobic acrylic, clistening free, named Sensar

Eyhance Optical filters: UV filter

Eyhance astigmatism correction: Yes, Eyhance Toric II

Eyhance models: basic ICB00, preloaded Simplicity DIB00; preloaded Eyhance toric: DIU150, DIU225, DIU300, DIU375, DIU450, DIU525, DIU600.
Optical power range: from +5.0D to +34.0D

Defocus curve

Official binocular defocus curve from the manufacturer. Demonstrates significant improvement in visual acuity, confirmed by clinical data from independent sources.

Open source clinical data, market feedback are confirmind these claims.

Expected realistic vision experience

Here is estimate visual experience with Tecnis Eyhance IOL, provided that you have healthy eyes, with no added conditions or deceases like glaucoma, retinal or macular issues and any other factors, which may influence vision quality and visual acuity. Also, this explanation refers to IOL at emmetropia with no residual refractive errors either in shpere or toricity, other words that you will not have residual astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia after cataract treatment and IOL implantation.

Far vision

Far vision quality is very good and reported to be 20/20 for majority of the patients with emmetropia as a residual refraction. Subjective vision quality might be slightly below Tecnis 1-piece monofocal IOL if compared directly by the same patient with high resolution retina.

Intermediate vision

For majority of patients, the lens provides sufficient for daily activity visual acuity which is reported superior to any other monofocal lens for the tasks at the arm length. This leads to higher comform without use of glasses at daily life, during driving, shopping etc.

Near vision

Some patients report good near vision, but it is an exception and shall not be expected normally.

Generally near vision with Eyhance requires glasses, however it's a bit better than with basic monofocal IOL

Day vs night vision changes

Data published about MTF performance, real world feedbacks and optical design of the lens allows to expect similar visual experience day and night.

Visual acuity change at near-intermediate range to be expected due to change of pupil size, which is optical basics related to any IOL, but the superiority to basic monofocal IOL will persist.

Contrast sensitivity

Contrast sensitivity is comparable to basic monofocal Tecnis-1 IOL, which is the best in class in terms of contrast. Eyhance does not have visible light filter, which improves night time performance and it's optical design keeps the contrast at the highest possible level.

Halo effects, positive dysphootpcias

Halo effects are not associated with Eyhance, and that IOL is safe for individuals, who need clear view at night or working with dotted light sources during day time.

However, halo effects might happen even with the basic monofocal IOL induced by factors, not associated with IOL optic. Eyhance provides clear night vision.

Eyhance IOL: best for

Any patient, who need basic monofocal IOL

Eyhance IOL suits the best for the patients, who are willing to have safety and comfort for daily tasks and do not mind wearing reading glasses. Good choice for patients, who are willing to have higher spectacle independence but are liimited in budget for premium presbyopia correcting IOL, who have clinical limitations for PC IOLs or sensitive to night halo effects.
